Taking the time to be kind brings smiles and happiness. In today's economy, many people are going through hardships and find themselves moody, irritable and sometimes hateful. Everyone needs a reason to smile and feel happy, even if just for a moment of the day.
One company doing RAK (random acts of kindness) is our own downtown WPB. On their twitter account, (downtownWPB) many times they list where free tickets are handed out to various activities. August 4, they handed out "Mama Mia" tickets. Sure wish I had been around that day. August 19, free umbrellas handed out. Here is the latest tweet:
"Get your tango on! Free lessons at the library every Thursday in September 6pm - 7:45pm. Call 868-7791 or visit www.mycitylibrary.org.5:15 PM Sep 8th"
When you are kind to others, you not only give to others in need, you also give to yourself. Maybe you hear some people talking about a book they have wanted to read for a long time. You know you have it and you have read it, so now is the time you can do a RAK. Maybe you work with them, go to school with them or they are a neighbor down the street. Take the time to bring your book and leave it on their desk. Print out a sheet of thoughtful affirmations, "Smile, you are beautiful.", "You are loved and accepted just as you are.", "I choose to be happy today." There are many many more affirmations out there.
And to end this blog, I found a quote online at Cheermup.net. Sometimes all you may have to give is a smile, But that smile to a person in need may change their life, maybe even save their life.

Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.
